IELTS Speaking Practice – Your Work

What kind of job do you do? What kind of work do you do?

I am working in a number of different jobs at the same time. First of all, I'm a teacher. I teach Chinese English and other foreign languages to students from all over the world. Secondly, I'm working as translator and editor and as an interpreter as well. So I do a number of different jobs at the same time.

What do you find interesting about your job?

The most interesting thing for me is being able to interact with a variety of different people and also learning things every day. I'm reading about a lot of different subjects. I am working through different reports on different industries and areas and this provides me with a lot of perspectives on different industries, and it always gives me the opportunity to learn new things. So that's something that I really cherish about my job.

Why did you choose to do this job?

I chose this job because I think it's a good match for my skills and experience. I studied languages at university so I think I'm quite talented in this area, and I've also got some teaching experience. I've got a teaching certificate and I've got experience teaching people of different ages, so I think it's quite suitable for me. I also like using languages in my job and helping other people.

Is your job the same as your expectations?

Yes, I think that by and large, my job is in line with my expectations. I am mostly working online, so I have to interact with people online, which I enjoy doing. I also have a lot of time to record content such as videos and other content that can help learners, which is also something that I enjoy doing.

Which do you think is more important, the job you do or the people you work with?

For me, I think both are equally important. You need to have a job that you enjoy. And the nature of the job needs to be interesting to you. But at the same time, I think you need to have interesting colleagues. If you're working with people that you can't stand, it will be very difficult to keep up that job for a long period of time.

Do you like the work that you do now?

Yes, I do enjoy my current line of work because it's interesting to work with a variety of people. I get to do a lot of different things. And I get to help people and benefit people in their everyday lives. So definitely, it's very enjoyable for me.

Do you think you will continue to work in the same field?

I think that it's likely that I will continue to work in a similar field. I might not be doing the same thing for my entire life. I think people like to change and evolve and do different things but I think that I won't transition to a completely different field. That would be probably impractical at this stage.
